Description

Edited by Robert Berkman, The Information Advisor’s Guide to Internet Research explores, evaluates, and provides critical analysis of free and fee-based online data and information resources and shares professional search strategies to help researchers identify quality and credible research sites and compare competing sources. Resources and topics analyzed include subscription business databases, news sources, government sites, open source, big data and machine learning, AI & algorithms, media literacy, and the evolving role of information professionals.

In addition to at least one feature by business research specialist Berkman, each issue of The Information Advisor’s Guide to Internet Research includes an in-depth article by Ran Hock, author of The Extreme Searcher book series, and well-known seminar speaker, who checks out a major web resource. Three regular columns are rotated; Cool Tools gives readers suggestions for cool internet tools to check out; Common Good shares sites that provide helpful resources over many subject areas (Brian Smith McCallum, M.L.S., public and academic librarian); the third, Scholar’s Web, identifies and reviews sites to turn to for more scholarly research needs (Briana McGuckin, reference and instructional librarian).

Robert Berkman is a faculty member of the School of Media Studies at The New School (New York, N.Y.) and author of several books on effective research, including, Find it Fast: Extracting Expert Information from Social Networks, Big Data, Tweets, and More, 6th Ed. (CyberAge Books, 2015).
