Although the subjects of investigations are mainly entomological, the research described in this book is predominately ecological. The sequence of chapters parallels the development of ecology, passing through a preliminary descriptive phase that includes cataloging flora and fauna. With this foundation, ecological investigations typically proceed from a descriptive to an experimental level through the formulation of testable hypotheses. In this volume, central topics such as density dependence and insect-plant co-evolution are evaluated experimentally in phytotelmata or simple analogs.
